There are many reasons that cause people to unite within the church and out of the church. Whether the motives are right or wrong I leave that to your discretion. One of the nights we played a card game (onze), a little observation came to me. In the home I am in, there are 8 youth of different races and cultures. Apart from all that was taking place around table I couldn’t help but notice that there was a sense of unity, a place of agreement despite our different backgrounds, which I am sure did not come from the game. But I believe that we can only find true unity among ourselves and with one another when we take the road of the cross. It’s only on this road that if we are willing to leave behind who we are and allow the cross to form us and follow Christ, that we will be United. Those we meet who are on this road, we will be able to truly unite with them and them with us because our hearts are united by what the Lord is doing in our spiritual being. It won’t be a unity that is based on our identity to each other by natural things. If you get a chance look up Romans 15 verse 5. Paul makes it clear that when we follow Christ there is a unity among ourselves in the spirit that God gives us as Christians. Without the work of the cross our differences are surely to divide us. May the Lord truly unite us as we continue on this road.
